Severe storms expected wednesday afternoon and evening in Chicago Area

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect until 1 a.m. Sunday for several counties in the Chicago area, including Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Will, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, Lake, and McHenry.

Additionally, a Flood Watch is also in effect until 1 a.m. Sunday for a slightly different set of counties: Central Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Eastern Will, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, La Salle, Lake, McHenry, Northern Cook, Northern Will, Southern Cook, and Southern Will.

The Chicago area is anticipated to experience potentially severe storms late Saturday evening and overnight, with primary concerns being strong winds and heavy rainfall persisting through the night. After the storm activity subsides, temperatures are expected to decrease slightly, accompanied by notably lower humidity levels on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday’s temperatures will reach a high of 85 degrees, followed by 86 degrees on Monday. We will provide updates on any further watches or warnings as they develop overnight, both here and on-air.
